Job Introduction

Job Title: Assistant Accountant 

Department: Finance 

Salary: £23,000 depending on experience 

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9am-5pm

Close date: Wednesday 17th June 

We now have a fantastic opportunity for a logical Assistant Accountant to join the Beaverbrooks family as a member of our Finance department.

As Beaverbrooks’ Assistant Accountant you will be not only an excellent communicator who enjoys working with others, but you will also be able to manage your own workload, approaching each day with a proactive and problem-solving attitude.

Role Responsibility

You will support the Finance Manager in the following functions:

  • Ensuring accurate recording of all income streams flowing through to monthly reconciliations of control accounts.
  • All tasks of the accounts payable function, accurately posting invoices, reconciling supplier statements, contacting suppliers as required. 
  • Responsibility for managing utility invoices and liaising with the Suppliers and Beaverbrook’s Property Department to resolve issues to ensure consistent charging of services provided.
  • Responsibility for the processing and payment of foreign supplier invoices, including reviewing the foreign currency accounts to ensure adequate funds are available
  • Responsibility for the processing and payments of all rents, service charges and rates for all stores
  • Ensuring Barclaycard expenditure is accurately recorded and posted to the correct nominals and cost centres
  • Preparing and reviewing weekly BACS pay runs, CHAPS and cheque payments
  • Supporting store colleagues with POS and finance enquiries/regulations including IFC, money laundering and customer enquiries.
  • Preparing and posting journal entries.
  • Involvement in month end working papers to facilitate preparation of management accounts.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations resolving all outstanding issues in a timely manner.
  • Bank postings and reconciliations.
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the daily and weekly Gross sales reporting to whole company.
  • General ad hoc duties –IFC staff sales calculations, Relocation expenditure.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential:

  • Proven knowledge of double entry and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations 
  • Ability to work as an integral part of a small team with a flexible and personable approach
  • Experience of working independently, prioritising workload and meeting objectives
  • A proactive approach to supporting the needs of colleagues and the wider business
  • Excellent accounting software user and demonstrates a drive to find system solutions to recording and reporting requirements
  • Advanced excel skills including VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy and confidentiality
  • Analytical, tenacious, able to engage and challenge at a management level in a professional manner

Desirable:

Experience of Navision software is desirable yet not essential
